Hi, I'm Piers and I hail from the Forest Of Dean in Gloucestershire. I have an interest in Militaria and antiquities from certain eras and nations.
I began wheelchair fencing in late 2010 after my disability (a collagen VI disorder) had progressed, I was searching for a sport that interested me, hopefully to shed a bit of weight and meet people too... I came across wheelchair fencing a thought I'd give it a go!
With the help of the coach Kevin Nelson at my local fencing club, I got started in the sport that was to become my life.
I was never sporty as a child, before my Neuromuscular condition progressed, I enjoyed a bit of Horse riding, I certainly wouldn't have called myself competitive but Fencing and the process of becoming an elite athlete changed everything and gave me my life back.
Lots of training, travelling, competition experiences and a few different coaches later, I found my base in Bath. It is here that prior to the Rio2016 Paralympic Games, UK Sport Funding finally opened up for me and with the help of some good people, I played a part in setting up a World Class Programme based at the University Sports Training Village and with my coach Peter Rome and growing Team it is still going strong and from strength to strength each day!
